Random Ramblings

I honestly don’t know why I made Tasha Yar a major character in my mirror universe AU but here we are I guess

I kinda suck at structured fic writing so I’m wondering if I should just do silly crap like the Cerritos group chat or something.

it honestly might be kinda fun to try and set up a page of my neocitites to look like a group chat

I’ve basically accepted that the mirror universe is going to be a big part of Star Trek dog AU. Because I’m debating why some people joined the rebellion against the Klingon-Cardassian Alliance, and I’m starting to think that the best catalyst for the mirror Cerritos escape might be Alonzo Freeman’s death.

I’m conflicted because I hate killing people off, but at the same time it feels necessary for the plot and because it’s the mirror universe I kinda feel like I need to off a few people.

Falling back into the Star Trek mirror universe hole. I’m trying to figure out some reason why Data and Lore would exist in the mirror universe beyond I just want them to

Maybe the guy who built them (I’m blanking on his name) got a bunch of Alliance funds and tech to build a weapon and just ran, kinda like Doc Brown in back to the future. And somehow later Data finds the rebels and Lore finds the borg

I never intended for the mirror universe to become such a big part of my Star Trek idea-verse but here we are I guess

Welp, Mirror-ritos strong

Mirror-ritos was just too good of a pun to pass down

I'm trying to work out the Lower Decks timeline for my AU stuff (I'm not really changing any plot stuff I just call it an AU for convenience*)
And I'm having trouble because Memory Alpha says the whole show takes place over just two years (somehow determined with the stardates).

But in season two, after Rutherford loses his memories he says that he's like "a year behind" being friends with Tendi.

And in season four Mariner mentions Boimler's 25th birthday, which if he graduated the academy at 21, a year before the show started, and every season was a year, would make him 25-26 in season four.

I'm sure there's some other examples I'm forgetting, but everything seems to indicate the same one season = one year thing that the other Star Trek shows followed.

So I'm thinking I just chuck the stardates in the trash and assume Lower Decks takes place over five years because that's what everything save the stardates seems to imply. (Also there's so few ages and dates given in canon that I'm having to guess/make up two thirds of this timeline anyway so I might as well make it make sense to me)

*also everyone's dogs/canine aliens but we are talking about dates here

At some point I'm going to have to do math to try and guesstimate everyone's ages around the few dates we do know

Alright here we go. Let’s start with what we know. In terms of years: Mariner started at the academy in 2367, Sito died in 2370, the Dominion War was between 2373 - 2375, Boimler graduated in 2379, and the first season of Lower Decks is set in 2380. Starfleet academy is a four year school with seemingly a minimum age requirement of 16. And in season four T’Lyn is 62 and Boimler is 25-26.

These are the assumptions I’m working with: Freeman had Mariner in either her late twenties or early thirties, Ransom is 5-7 years older than Mariner, Tendi and Rutherford are younger than Mariner and older than Boimler.

With that out of the way onto the math

Assuming 1 season = 1 year

If Mariner was 16 when she started at the academy, she would have been born in 2351, been 22 when the Dominion war started, 29 in season one, and 34 in season five
Assuming Ransom was born in 2345 and started the academy at 17, he would have been 28 when the war started, 35 in season one, and 40 in season five
Assuming Boimler was born in 2359 and started the academy at 17, he would have been 21 in season one, and 26 in season five
T’Lyn would have been born in 2322 making her 61 in her first appearance in season three and 63 in season five
Freeman would be in her late fifties or early sixties in season one, and in her early to mid sixties in season five
Tendi and Rutherford would have been born between 2352 and 2358 making them between 22-28 in season one, and between 27-33 in season five

And now assuming that season five was 2382 and everyone was 18 or older when they started at the Academy

Mariner would have been born in 2349, been 24 when the Dominion war started, 31 in season one, and 33 in season five
Assuming Ransom was born in 2344, he would have been 29 when the war started, 36 in season one, and 38 in season five
Boimler would have born in 2356, started the academy at 19, been 24 in season one, and 26 in season five
T’Lyn would have been born in 2319 making her 62 in her first appearance in season three and 63 in season five
Freeman would be in her late fifties or early sixties
Tendi and Rutherford would have been born between 2350 and 2355 making them between 25-30 in season one, and between 27-32 in season five

Honestly, the numbers in the first one make more sense to me but I know that the second one is probably closer to canon

I'm gonna go with the one season = one year for my own math, it just makes the most sense to me

I might make a proper timeline at some point, but if I ever posted it somewhere it would be my Neocities because one it would be easier to edit, and two it would have some dates I made up and guesstimated for my own writing rather than being a canon resource

It's 1am and I'm googling "ships that were often stationed near Deep Space 9"

I'm probably winning some nerd award right now

After reading way to many articles I think the USS Venture is he best fit for what I'm writing

I almost went with the Farragut but the wiki seemed to imply the Farragut was commissioned in 2373 and I needed an older ship

I'm assuming it doesn't break canon for the Venture to be at DS9 ever other week

So I randomly decided to look up the meaning of the name Cody, which was the name I picked for Mariner and Ransom’s son in my au, and it means “son of Odo”???

Like what!?! Out of every possible thing a name could have meant? I picked the name months ago just because I liked the sound. And today I find out it means “son of Odo”. Like, what were the chances. I’m dying

“I don’t need anymore fankids” I say, as if I didn’t just spend like half an hour on a Bajoran name generator trying to pick a name for Kira'a adopted daughter

Trying to fight off my ideas for Boimler's daughters
